Encaja, a phone-scan-based workflow for printable prosthetic sockets, won Colombia’s national James Dyson Award.

What is new?

Encaja uses a smartphone scan of a residual limb to generate a 3D-printable upper-limb prosthetic socket. It won the Colombian national round of the 2026 James Dyson Award and entered the international shortlist. Clinical fit and suitability still require professional assessment.

3DPS perspective

Real-world suitability should be evaluated against production, cost and reliability data as these become available.
